Rather than have it look stuttery and odd for newcomers it was simply better to leave it dark and oldschooley.ģ) No one wants to see it. Themeing is jittery and odd and the black box that appears was not just annoying it made it look broken unless you where used to it in which case you overlooked it and that box is impossible to remove (hence black background). Anonymity was preferrable by any metric then.Ģ) Grub2 is really crud. If it wasn't exactly what they (personally) had in mind, they disliked it - especially since its so impossible to change in comparison with SDDM etc. Initially the idea was "oh lets put stuff there" but the further we got into it three things struck us:ġ) People hated it. So black bakground + text go into black background+logo into blue(or whatever you chose) in SDDM etc. That ment making Grub, Plymouth, SDDM, Ksplash all mesh together (all different things with very different rules for what you can do with them). So essentially the goal was to make the sensation of booting as "fluid" as possible.
